Lucie Kasanga (Chairperson)
Ms.
Kasanga has served on Disacare’s board since 1993. A
civil engineer by profession, Ms. Kasanaga maintains a consulting
practice while she volunteers with many organizations. Currently,
she is the treasurer of the board for APTERS (a sister organization
to Disacare), the executive chair of the Mindolo Ecumenical
Foundation (a pan-African institute for Christian leadership,
democracy, and peace building), a trustee of SOS Village Zambia
(a non profit working to give orphan children social mobility),
and a Lusaka Rotary Club Rotarian. Ms. Kasanga has also worked
extensively with microfinance groups and in election management,
which started from her experience as an elections commissioner
for Zambia.
Senja
Väätäinen
Ms.
Väätäinen has represented KEPA<links to
description on partners page> on Disacare’s board
since 2005. Like the KEPA representatives before her, Ms.
Väätäinen facilitates Disacare’s communication
with its Finnish partner organizations and helps the development
of Disacare’s managerial capacities through trainings.
As a project advisor at KEPA Zambia, Ms. Väätäinen
works with several other local disabled peoples organizations,
including Disacare’s partner ZNAPH. Ms. Väätäinen
has a Masters in Environmental Studies from the University
of Helsinki.
Dr.
Felix Silwimba
Dr.
Silwimba originated the idea of Disacare and its founding
organization, LUDISEP<link to history page>. In 1997
Dr. Silwimba moved to Northern Province to work as a doctor
in the Kasama General Hospital’s Department of Surgery.
A few years later, he became the district health manager there,
shifting his career into public health. Dr. Silwimba currently
volunteers his time to start an advocacy group for children
with disabilities in the Kasama District, following the principles
of community-based rehabilitation. Dr. Silwimba also recently
started the Disacare Data Club in Kasama for young disabled
people to earn money by selling computer and printing services.
Reuben
Zulu (Treasurer)
Mr.
Zulu is the executive director of the Economics Association
of Zambia, and he is serving his 10th year as a Disacare trustee.
Outside of offering Disacare his financial and administrative
expertise, Mr. Zulu does motivational speaking to encourage
people to realize their full potential, and he serves as an
elder for his church.
Temwani
Chihana
Mr.
Chihana has spent 2 years on the board of trustees, before
which he spent several years as a loyal client for wheelchair
and crutch services. Professionally, Mr. Chihana is an consulting
accountant for a project between the Zambian Ministry of Finance
and the European Union. On Disacare’s board of trustees,
Mr. Chihana adds his accounting services to those of the treasurer,
Mr. Zulu.
Richard
Beardsall
Mr.
Beardsall has served on Disacare's board since 2000. He is
also an active Rotarian in Lusaka, and a pilot in his spare
time. Professionally, Mr. Beardsall consults for Barclay’s
bank and owns Kaingo Business Consultants and Kaingo Leisure
Ltd.
