HAND
TRICYCLE
The
hand-powered tricycle can cover long distances and haul up
to 100kgs (220lbs.) of cargo! The tri-cycle is ideal for residents
of remote areas and for people who commute long distances
to work. Like our wheelchairs, the hand tricycle is able to
traverse potholes and mud pits with ease – an essential
capability for active lifestyles in Zambia. The hand-crank
can be set by the rider to any of 6 gears for speed and ease
of cranking. At peak speed, our customers report that they
go about as fast as bicyclists. Tricycle riders do not need
to have the arms of body builders. While our customers say
they enjoy how their arm strength has increased after using
the tricycle, they report that the tricycle has been an “amazing”
improvement to their mobility even since the first day they
got it.

BICYCLE AMBULANCE
Disacare
started introduced the bicycle ambulance to Zambia in 2006
with peri-urban and rural populations in mind. The ambulance
is designed to reduce preventable deaths in places where motorized
ambulances cannot access, including most villages. The ambulances
consist of a trailer that can be attached to any bicycle*.
Because they do not require money for fuel and maintenance
is very simple (simpler than bicycle maintenance), these ambulances
are ready to use at any time. The stretchers are upholstered
and canopied for comfort, and the wheels are wide enough to
withstand almost any terrain. Ambulances are intended for
use by rural hospitals, clinics, and village (under the management
of the village council or chief).

employees train twice a week.

manufacturing high quality products at affordable prices.
The wheelchairs are manufactured using 100% locally available

wheelchairs durable, comfortable and affordable. We at Disacare
will strive to always put the person and the process before
the product, thereby making our products user friendly.
QUALITY CRUTCHES and WALKERS
Crutches
can be made to order in steel, treated pine, and treated plywood
materials. Like our other mobility aides, the crutches can
be adjusted in length and grip height for maximum comfort.
Crutches are fitted with under-arm cushions and rubber tips
for durability. Sanding sealer and varnish are applied to
all wooden mobility aides to make them waterproof. Materials
are sourced locally, so that they support Zambia’s growing
economy.
Steel
and wooden walkers are also available and can be fitted to
any size (width and height). Walkers are equipped with small
caster wheels on the front legs, and rubber tips on the back
