BASKETBALL WHEELCHAIRS

These are designed for sports activities. The rear wheels have a bigger camber (6˚) than the Kavuluvulu. Camber is the way the rear wheels are tilted when viewed from the top of the wheelchair. In this case they are tilted in towards the body. This makes the wheelchair stable as it has a wider base. It is easier to propel and the player can make sharp turns without the wheelchair falling on the sides. The front wheels are also smaller and hard as compared to the Kavuluvulu which has wide and soft front wheels. This also makes it easy to propel as it has less traction to the basketball concrete ground. The backrest is made as short as possible so that it does not interfere with upper body movements and hands propelling. The user should have good upper body functionality without requiring support. The footrests do not protrude in front of the wheelchair instead they are “inside” to avoid breaking spokes of the other players’ wheelchairs in cases collisions.  It is rigid.  It is made from mild steel and therefore very durable.

Specific features include:

  • A rigid steel frame for strength and speed, these chairs are made for collisions!

  • Rear wheels that are cambered for extra speed and stability

  • 24-inch (61cm) bicycle tires

  • Rear wheels designed to be easily removed for tire maintenance and parking when traveling by car or bus

  • Front caster wheels made of very durable plastic

  • A foot rest that can be adjusted to different heights

Adult and extra-large sizes are available.

Customers are welcome to try out the sports chairs on Disacare’s own basketball court, where Disacare employees train twice a week every Tuesday and Thursday.
