Disacare Wheelchair Centre was formed in 1991 and was the brainchild of Dr. Felix Silwimba. At its inception the aim of the centre was to promote independent living for people with disabilities, by empowering them with mobility and making them economically self sufficient.

In short the centre recognized the need for mobility aids in Zambia and identified the potential for providing employment for persons with disabilities in a wheelchair production unit.

• To establish and enhance corporate understanding between Disacare and other organizations
•  To enhance and maintain the already existing relationship with clients
• To scout for donor assistance and support
• To identify potential donors among local and international community who can sponsor wheelchairs which can then be donated to suitable individuals, organizations and charities
• To develop the advocacy role of the centre, by meeting with local business houses to discuss disability issues and care
• To change the life of disable persons by giving then confidence and dignity through mobility aids
• To encourage social independence and sustainable livelihood among persons with disability
•  To establish and maintain relationship between the donor and beneficiary
